There are a number of different problems that could cause curled shingles to appear on your roof, so we have put together this handy guide for you so you can try and avoid some of the trappings before it is too late.

Firstly, poor attic ventilation can be a common cause of curled shingles. Because hot, moist air will typically find it’s way up to the attic, so without quality ventilation rising air can get trapped in the decking, causing mold to form and your shingles to curl.

Curled Shingles

Multiple layered roofs are another common caused of curled shingles. Occasionally you may find that your roof has been built on top of an old, decrepit one, some people choose this method as it can be cheaper than stripping the entire roof and starting again. The shingles on the second layer aren’t as secure and your shingles could be curled or dislodged by high winds. Poor workmanship on the construction of your roof can also cause this problem, if the contractor who installed your roof didn’t use enough nails per shingle, improperly placed the nails, or if shingles weren’t lined up properly, the shingles can become loose and curl in the wind.

Get A Specialist Out

Finally if your roof is more than 12-15 years old, it may be coming to the end of it’s lifespan, you might already see shingles starting to curl. You should definitely consider getting the roof check out if that is the case, it will save you a lot of money getting it fixed before any water damage occurs.
